The Surinam cherry is a small tropical tree native to South America. It produces bright orange to deep red, ridged fruits with a sweet-tart flavor. The tree grows 2–8 meters tall, has glossy aromatic leaves, and thrives in warm climates with well-drained soil. Its fruits are eaten fresh, made into jams, juices, or wine, and are rich in vitamin C. Surinam cherry is also used ornamentally but can be invasive in some areas.
