The mangosteen is a tropical tree producing sweet-tart purple fruits. It thrives in humid climates, well-drained acidic soil, and partial shade when young. Valued for its antioxidant-rich fruit, it’s eaten fresh or used in desserts and traditional medicine. Trees take 7–10 years to fruit.
