The large Clove plant grows up to 8-12 meters tall, featuring broad, glossy, dark green evergreen leaves. It produces small, aromatic reddish flower buds that develop into purple berries. Thriving in tropical maritime climates, it prefers well-drained, loamy soil and full sun to partial shade. These buds are dried and used as a spice in cooking and have medicinal properties.
- Height: Clove trees can grow up to 8–12 meters (26–39 feet) tall, but they are often pruned to manage their height for easier harvesting.
- Canopy Spread: Mature clove trees have a dense canopy with spreading branches that can grow up to 6 meters (20 feet) wide.
- Trunk: They have a strong, straight trunk that can reach 30 cm (12 inches) in diameter.
- Lifespan: Clove trees are slow-growing and can live for over 100 years, with the peak of their spice production occurring after about 20 years.
- Flower Clusters: The valuable part of the clove plant, its flower buds, grow in clusters at the branch tips. These buds are harvested when they turn a pinkish color and dried for use as spice.
